Welcome to the Lower Lab of Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics

Our research integrates ecological, molecular, and computational approaches to investigate how and why organisms are they way they are. In particular, we are interested in the genetic mechanisms and evolutionary processes underlying the incredible diversity of fireflies, the fascinating bioluminescent beetles that you may see flashing or glowing on summer nights.

At the Bucknell Spring 2024 Dance Concert? Check out this post for things to look for in the firefly piece.

We are an active research lab consisting of undergraduates and masters students under the direction of the principal investigator (PI), Dr. Sarah Lower, in the Biology Department at Bucknell University. Under the “Research Interests” tab, you will find descriptions of some of the specific research questions that we are investigating in the lab. If you are interested in joining the lab, please email the PI, Dr. Lower, at s.lower@bucknell.edu.

We also enjoy sharing our knowledge and excitement about our captivating study system through community outreach and science communication. If you are interested in partnering with us on an outreach opportunity, please reach out to Dr. Lower via email and include FIREFLY OUTREACH in the subject header.
